Why flake is the workhorse finish
Epoxy flake flooring is the practical favourite for a working garage or workshop. Vinyl chips are broadcast into the wet base coat and locked under a clear topcoat, giving a textured, grippy surface that hides dust and minor marks far better than a plain gloss.
If you want the showpiece look instead, compare it with our metallic floors. It is our usual pick for a home garage, and a popular choice for a home gym resin floor where the texture earns its keep under weights and trainers; our guide to the best resin floor for a garage explains when to choose it over the alternatives.
Grip and clean-up
The flake texture gives grip without an added aggregate, and the sealed topcoat still mops and hoses clean. For wetter areas we can build the grip up further with a fine anti-slip.

Common questions
- Is a flake floor slippery?
- Less than a plain gloss. The chip texture gives natural grip, and we can add a fine anti-slip on top for wet areas.
- Can I match a colour scheme?
- Yes. Flake comes in dozens of colour blends, and we mix chip colours and sizes to match the space. Tell us the effect you are chasing.
- How tough is it really?
- Very. The flake sits under a hard clear topcoat, so it takes dropped tools and tyre traffic and still wipes clean.
- What are the downsides of a flake floor?
- Two honest ones. The texture holds a little more dirt than a smooth gloss floor, so it wants the odd extra mop. And the chip blend is locked in once it cures, so it is worth getting the colour right up front. We lay out samples before we start.
- How long does a flake floor last?
- Laid properly over a sound slab, a flake floor takes years of garage and workshop traffic under its clear topcoat. The prep is what makes it last, which is why we never skip the grind.
